THE NEWS AS IT HAPPENED!

AP over A - The Festival has Ended

Day 4 a rest day.  Day 5 8-9 knots but then the thermic breeze died. Day 6 we had no races due the lack of wind - so the scores stay as they are.

Windsurfing World Festival - Disappointing Day Three!

Despite a promising forecast the wind did not show until later in the afternnon, and not as strong as expected. The juniors were called to the water first, but before the race could finish it was abandoned. The smaller sails of this fleet (8.5 maximum) were not enough to keep the sailors planing. However it as a different story for the youth, senior and masters, who with a 11.0 sail were able to complete 2 races today.

So, no change at the top of the junior fleet; but we have now published a new ranking for the FE Open. Leading sailor is Nicholas Schereir (PER 2), 2008 senior champion, with ESP 381 and BRA 221 in the other podium positions.

Last night the class held its AGM, and a full report will be published soon. However one very important decision was made - from 2010 the world title will transfer to an open division, but the class will continue to promote FE as a great alternative racing development class for junior sailors.

Windsurfing World Festival - Race Day Two

An early start for the juniors was abandoned as the wind was not settled but the wind soon picked up for some nice conditions.  Competition is tough and we expect a full regatta of races at this championship. The organisers have done a fantastic job setting up the event site and with such good beach and wind conditions we look forward to a memorable event.

The leading sailors after 6 races are PER 7 on a tie break from BRA 767 then PER 99 - Full results

Tonight we have the agm for the FE class - with some important changes proposed.

Windsurfing World Festival - Race Day One

The results for FE junior after one day's racing, wind about 16-17 knots: 1st Isaac Mateus (BRA 767) with 3 points, 2nd Ricardo Aquirre (PER 7) with 6 points and 3rd Matias Canseco (PER 99) 10 points - Full Results after three races.  Marcos Fernandez Iglesias, ESP 13 heads the FE youth fleet, (14th overall out of 42) whilst Nicolas Schereir Loret PER 2 is first senior and Francisco Robleda Barcia, ESP 307 is first master.

PREVIEW

You can find all the rules in the Sailing Instructions.

The event will be based at the Parque Metropolitano de Los Torunos Levante Beach, El Puerto de Santa Maria, Cadiz.
The venue is popular with formula racers that enjoy full planing conditions from a beach location in front of a national park, and close to all the best tourist features of both old Cadiz and Puerto de Santa Maria.

You can find lots of information about the venue on the event website
