Brazilian FE Championship
Posted On:  15/10/2009 22:31:08
The Clube Santa Catarina, in Florianopolis held the '09 Brazilian FE Championship. In three days we had 7 races disputed in light, moderate and strong winds and different sea conditions, from flat water to huge swell conditions.

Marcello Morrone finished in first place ahead of Mateus Isaac and Luis Fernando Urubu. Marcello also took the national title on Masters and Heavy Weight divisions. In the other categories we had Mateus Isaac, with 15 years old only, winning on Light Weight and Senior divisions, his father Carlos Isaac winning the Gran Master title and Leonardo Venturini winning on the Under 15 division. Ana Sofia is the Women Brazilian Champion 2009.

At the end of this month, the Brazilian FE sailors will gather again to compete with other south american sailors for the continental title in Maragogi beach. Next year, Brazil will organize the World Championship in Rio and the plan is to have up to 100 sailors at the starting line.

"The event was great. Like in all other FE races here in Brazil we had intense battles for the first places and very exciting races. The champion was defined only after the last race. I was on my Overdrive 11.0 rig at all 7 races and keep very constant results through the 3 days of competition. It was very curious to race from 7 to 25 knots with the same sail in a winning level condition. The OD sail has an incredible range and unlimited trimming possibilities.I should mention also the super stiff Severne aluminum race boom that works really well."
